Following the loss of the USS Kelvin in 2233 Starfleet realized that their current set of ships was ill equipped for combat roles. Telemetry data recorded by the Kelvin of the technologically advanced Narada during its battle was brought back to Starfleet via the surviving shuttles. Many believe that exposure to this data inspired ideas and technology that wouldn't have advanced otherwise.

After fifteen years of reverse engineering technology from the data Starfleet began a series of refits to existing ships. The USS Memento Mori NCC-1161 a member of the Asia class was selected to be one of those ships.

At 35 years old the Mori was past the point of refit and as Starfleet was in need of more ships they decided to refit existing ships before attempting to use new technology on a new design, ironic as the Asia class was brought about for the opposing reason.

The ship received a number of key modifications. The older warp reactor was removed in exchange for a newer 'Multi-Intermix Dilithium Mediated' warp power system. Her phaser systems were upgraded to include six phaser ball turrets, four on the saucer and two on the secondary hull.

Point defense phasers, technology first developed and used on the Kelvin, and in recent years updated were installed totaling at sixteen, twelve on the saucer, and four on the secondary hull. Finally two forward torpedo launchers with the latest photon torpedoes were installed in place of the older photon launchers.

Much like the Prime Universe Asia advancements utilized on here were eventually made common place, and were used on the Constitution class with the most visible difference being more advanced warp nacelles and being larger overall.
